Gale Garnett’s Burlesque Tribute ‘Small Potatoes’

New Zealand born Gale Garnett achieved a degree of fame in 1964 when she had a number four hit in the US with her folk song We’ll Sing in the Sunshine, but this track from a year later is a different style entirely. Small Potatoes is a groovy bump ‘n’ grind tune that is accompanied in this fantastic Scopitones clip by fan dancers, rhinestone body suits and sexy dance routines. The track is taken from the album Variety is the Spice of Gale Garnett, one of three LPs she released that year, part of a prolific few years of recording that eventually saw her moving into pop psychedelia with the fantastically-titled Gale Garnett Sings About Flying and Rainbows and Love and Other Groovy Things, and a couple of albums with the band The Gentle Reign. She would also voice a character in Mad Monster Party in 1967, and later appeared in 1980 cult horror The Children.
