News: The Residents Return With The Ghost Of Hope

Always interesting and often brilliant, men of mystery The Residents have been around for four decades – possibly not always with the same line-up, but always pushing the boundaries of music and art. They release their latest album, The Ghost of Hope, in March through MVD in the USA and Cherry Red in the UK.

Like many Residents albums, this is a conceptual piece, based on true stories of 19th and early 20th century train wrecks. Inspired by the discovery of a series of articles about the dangers of train travel at that time, the band mix music, sound effects and text from original newspaper stories to create a documentary soundtrack, and play on the mysteries of the word ‘hope’. The resulting album promises to both remember the past and question whether we have learned from the mistakes of that era for the future.

In addition to this new album, Cherry Red have also announced that they have secured the rights to the extensive Residents back catalogue. So expect some long-overdue re-releases soon.
