An unholy collection of famous faces and minor celebrities gather to mangle the Beatles classic for a TV promo.
You may remember the BBC promo film version of Lou Reed’s Perfect Day, initiially made as a puff-piece for the monolithic broadcaster to claim that only the licence fee ensured that it could cover every music genre (apart, of course, from the several genres not deemed fashionable enough to be represented in the clip) and then a smash hit charity single. Well, forget about that. We have something much better for you.
In 2010, Norwegian chat TV show Glyne Tider decided to end its series of celebrity interviews with what might be the greatest six minutes of video ever created – a version of the Beatles’ Let It Be, as performed by the most unlikely collective of famous people ever gathered (or not, as each has clearly been shot indiidually against a green screen and then inserted into a beach backdrop). How great is this? Well, let’s just say that it opens up with Roger Moore speaking the opening lines of the song and then just gets crazier.
If you’d ever wanted a song that featured both Bud Spencer and René from All Allo singing, then your dreams have come true. If you’ve fantasisied about seeing Dee Snider of Twisted Sister performing with George Wendt from Cheers or John ‘Bergerac‘ Nettles, this is for you. There are appearances from Paul McKenna, disgraced skater Tonya Harding, Dolph Lundgren and both Sheryl Lee and Sherilyn Fenn of Twin Peaks.
But I’ve said too much. The best way to enjoy this is to go in unprepared. Believe me, it’s worth the effort.
