The Los Angeles festival of kink culture and BDSM free expression returns this weekend.
Kicking off today (May 20th) and running through the weekend for those of you in or near Los Angeles is DomCon, the world’s most extravagant fetish and kink event. At a time when erotic expos are dwindling away (I can’t recall when the last one in the UK was) and non-vanilla sexual expression feels like it is under increasing threat from moralists and sexually paranoid conspiracy nutjobs, it’s good to see this sort of event continuing the thrive. The event is at the LAX Hilton, and if that isn’t a sign of respectability I don’t know what is.
Obviously, it’s a bit of a slog for us to get to so we won’t be in attendance – however, those who can make it will find all manner of stalls flogging (so to speak) BDSM gear and ‘pleasure products’ of various sorts from Whipping Stripes, Leather by Danny, Canes 4 Pain, Steel Bones corsets, Ballistic Metal, Blood Bay, The Frugal Domme, Rayvnblood Leather, Heresy Craftwork, Justin Sayne Leather, The Latex Store, The Kink Factory, Firebird Leather, and many more. It’s not just about buying stuff though, as there will be classes on disability and kink, sex toys in scenes, chastity play, wearable rope bondage, mental health in BDSM, and maintaining kinky relationships – all very useful in their own way – and networking events for those who might not have found that significant other (or others) who share their tastes. Friday night sees an extravagant costume parade and Saturday has a Fetish Ball.
This is an increasingly rare show of public pride by the BDSM community and for anyone who is merely curious, it seems like a good place to start.
