Comic Books Espana

An impressive catalogue of graphic novels from Barcelona.

It’s been a while since we brought you a catalogue of desirable delights from days gone by – but as we unearth assorted goodies from our misbegotten pasts, you can expect more curios and oddities in the days ahead. And not just old video company catalogues. Here, from the archives of Mrs R., is a rather fantastic and glossy brochure from Barcelona comic shop Norma, dating back to 1989 and showing a fine selection of international graphic novels from the heyday of comicdom’s shift into more mature and challenging content. This wasn’t something new to European comic book publishers, of course, but as this catalogue shows, the new move beyond the funny books was happening globally.

Some of the titles featured here are established classics, others very much of their time and now almost forgotten – but all are interesting.
