Britsploitation Trailers: The Final Conflict

Britsploitation 3 Movie Trailers

The third part of our British cult and exploitation movie trailer trilogy is here, slightly delayed for technical reasons. This is another selection of the weird, the wonderful and the wild, from Amicus anthologies to folk horror, psycho killers to Dracula, giant monsters to mad doctors – and more. This literally goes from the sublime to the ridiculous – though we’ll let you decide which is which.

These three compilations of classic trailers are souvenirs of a British film industry long gone, when high art mixed with sexploitation and commercial cinema was embraced, not sneered at – at least by the public. I think that we have created a fairly good representation of the golden age of British cult cinema in these collections before the bottom fell out of the market and filmmaking became the preserve of the sort of filmmakers that ticked the socio-political buttons for public funding. Of course, we now have more British genre films being made than ever, but most have low profiles and minimal distribution.

To answer a couple of questions: we have deliberately not included Hammer films – there are already existing Hammer trailer collections, though they tend to stick to the classic gothic titles, so we might produce a Hammer-specific collection at some later point. And yes, we might well collate more collections of international trailers at some later point too.

For now though, enjoy this final installment in our Britsploitation series. Stay tuned for more Desperate Living video content- interviews, exploration of our archives and opinionated commentary, as well as oddball clips from our VHS collection. You can find our productions here on the website (including those not suitable for uploading elsewhere) or see a wider selection of content on our YouTube page. If you visit that, don’t forget to like, subscribe and all that – every bit of support helps make that particular project more viable.
