David Lynch’s legendary comic strip is everything that you would hope for.
David Lynch’s The Angriest Dog in the World was a comic strip that ran from 1983 to 1992 in the LA Reader. We are told that this extremely angry dog is “so angry he cannot move. He cannot eat. He cannot sleep. He can just barely growl. Bound so tightly with tension and anger, he approaches the state of rigor mortis.”
Consisting of the same four panels per strip, only the captions changed, revealing Lynch’s penchant for cheesy puns and existential thought.
For some time, the Dog was quite the cult figure, appearing on (bootleg) T-shirts and other merchandise, and being spoofed and referenced by other cartoonists. These days, he’s mostly forgotten by all but hardened Lynch fans. With Twin Peaks back on the air, surely it’s time for his second greatest creation to also make a return…
