Talking Pictures TV Encore: At Last, A Catch-Up Service

Britain’s only worthwhile TV station finally launches an on-demand service.

The one downside of the much-loved Talking Pictures TV – aside from some rather panic-driven censorship that seems an understandable reaction to idiotic OFCOM complaints from morons who don’t seem to understand that old movies might not have 2021 social sensibilities – is that much of the channel’s content is shown at awkward times, either during the day when people are out and about or in the middle of the night. Sure, you can record stuff if you still have those capabilities – but what about the rest of us? And what about those who just don’t watch TV anymore? Should they be deprived of the only channel actually worth watching? What we really need is a catch-up service available online. And hallelujah, we’re about to get one.

Talking Pictures TV Encore launches on December 1st 2021 and promises access to the channel’s broadcasts, films and TV shows. How many remains to be seen – I suspect that one reason this has taken so long is because of rights issues and we’ll have to see just how much of the programming makes its way to the Encore service. Hopefully, most of it will be there and those episodes of Honey West that keep slipping past us will finally be there for the taking. TPTV has assured viewers that the service will offer uncensored content, freed as it is from the pathetic rules governing television broadcast.

You’ll need to sign up – to placate the needs of advertisers – but the service is completely free. There is no word on whether or not the service will be available internationally, so feel free to give it a try. VPNs are probably your friend here.
